Jimmy and Cowboy

We got a job and a paycheck
And we cussed the cost of things
We got a roof over our heads
And we cussed the ice and sleet
We got heating on chilly nights
And a warm bed to lie on
And we cussed the bills when they arrived
Until one winter day
Jimmy and Cowboy were in the news
Burned to ashes
With the condemned house they found
They said Jimmy and Cowboy took turns
Watching the open fire
That kept them warm
But whatever happened that night
We cussed these vagabonds’ fate
Who probably never cussed the life
To which they had silently surrendered
With which they silently departed.
