there's always something lovely each day

there's always something lovely each day
a blooming wildflower, sending sweetness in the air,
shining bright with the sun or rain.
a fluttering butterfly, heightening the colors of spring,
adorning shades of green.

there's always something lovely each day
a lost fawn scampering, a wild rabbit hopping,
another breed of birds singing,
a fidgety squirrel nibbling leaves up a tree
and freezing at the sight of me.

(there's always something lovely each day
reminding me of "Barter" by Sara Teasdale.)

there's always something lovely each day
something i wouldn't trade with city lights,
skyscrapers and fast cars,
phoney greetings and laughter
from blank faces with tired eyes
and mouths that mumble and cuss
another day that's full of fuss.
