before you mow the lawn,
let me watch dandelions turn
from yellow to gray, then wind-blown.
let me watch daffodils turn
their heads down and curl
...into oblivion.
let me watch all these blooms
of blue, purple, white and yellow,
romanced by bugs and butterflies
by birds and dragonflies.

before you mow the lawn,
let me weep the coming and going
of these spring harbingers
and rejoice with the birds
as they feast on imperceptible remains,
on crawling meats in demolished ant hills
hit by sharp roaring tornadoes
after you mowed the lawn.
