I Prayed for Rain

I prayed for rain
as California was ablaze for days,
its wildfires consuming acres.

I prayed for rain
as extreme drought in the south
put us in danger of water rationing
and we could all be left stinking!

Because I prayed for rain,
it poured on me again:
like an army of angry ocean waves,
smashing on my windshield
and clouding my vision
while racing on I-40
for an unknown mission.

Because I prayed for rain,
it poured on me again:
with wired money that never came,
express mail that turned snail mail,
urgent papers that were a hassle,
a mechanic paid for a car unrepaired
and for using my car for an escapade!

Oh, well. What the heck!
Rain is here for both joy and pain.
I just need an aspirin
and a glance at leaves that are turning,
at baby Candice who is yawning
for a real brand new day!
