Spring-Winter Feud

When this wild world can’t tell
Whether it’s spring or winter,
It should get distracted indeed
With a total solar eclipse!

To Carburn Park, I sought solace.
Among the chickadees and flickers,
Robins sing atop blooming trees
That guard the lake that freezes.

Underneath this lake,
The muskrats and beavers
Stay put ‘til thawing’s done
With a cache in an insulated dam.

The Bow River remains a duck hub
With wigeons and mallards,
Goldeneyes and mergansers.
Pelicans and cormorants later.

Winter brought the warmest days,
Thin ice lots of lives claimed,
Spring brought heaviest snowfall,
Would you imagine summer and fall?
