It wouldn’t die down
Arriving at dawn
Howling like a wolf
Seeming to mourn
The loss of its soul.
No, it wouldn’t die down
Hammering the naked limbs
Of trees forcibly hibernating
Battering the roofs
Pounding on windows
Like a monster trying to get in
And devour everything within.
