Skipper butterflies

I see one of you at the park in summertime
We both watch the Elbow River flow with the sunshine
(And without my bug spray, I get all the mosquito bites.)
I see one of you on the school grounds
You park on the fence waiting for my rounds
Unshaken even if our balls over you bounce.
I see one of you quench your thirst on our doormat
And another on a wildflower in our garden lands
Skipper butterflies, you're everywhere I stand.
Peck's skipper, Delaware skipper, Woodland skipper
Fiery skipper, Long Dash skipper, whatever name you prefer
I wish you could stay all year and always be there
And remind me that this life can be shorter...
