Daddy Long-Legs

Now that my hopper has gone
Gone with the heat wave and the drought,
And then again my blooms have come
Miraculously in frosty mornings,
A daddy long-legs comes knocking.

And how fast it’s grown
How many babies it’s borne.
They swarm my precious blooms
With their gentle legs so long.

Oh, well, I guess this is what living alone means
Whatever’s at my doorstep is noticed,
Whatever wonder that welcomes me
After a long day with kids with ADHD.

(Making sure I don’t get a bite or a sting,
Poison or venom or anything…
For these discoveries are no stopping. )
