One’s Trash, Another’s Treasure

As a teen, I fell in love with Victor Hugo’s Hunchback and cried with his Les Miserables. In a thrift shop this summer, I came across the CD set of Les Mis musical in its original packaging and couldn’t resist it. Somebody’s trash? It wasn’t even opened! Somebody got as a gift and re-gifting to others? Hmm… It was definitely a treasure for moi!

We know that the past owners of these treasures have passed on or downsized, or simply got tired of things. For whatever reason people get rid of things, I thank them for donating to thrift shops instead of chucking and expanding our landfills. It’s true that Mother Earth could live for a billion years more, but it will be uninhabitable millions of years before its end. Aren’t we the lucky ones indeed? How about we show some gratitude by being stewards of the earth as indigenous knowledge tells us? We may be atheists who do not believe in the purpose of our being, to protect the earth for example, but I believe in my heart that we all have love for our children and our children’s children and the world they live in… Please donate what could be another’s treasure. Merci beaucoup! Peace! MLJ/04/10/2020IntheyearofCOVID19.
