Japanese Macaque

Haven’t seen you up close until today
Your purplish eyelids remind me of Cher
And of decades past with my painted face,
Achy toes in high heels and polished nails,
Armed with a blank Resume and fake beauty.

But faith, confidence, optimism, dedication,
Hard work and passion led to my avocation.
A decade more and I’d be out of commission,
But who cares if I get to the finish line or not
(For friends have already been snatched by God)
For it’s all about the journey, is it not?
And a grateful heart for all that we’ve got.

Come walk with me further down the line
And forget Cher’s If I Could Turn Back Time
For I’ve embraced bone loss, wrinkles,
Waking stiffness and a bulging middle…

‘Tis true I’m creaking like the Tin Man now,
But this macaque reminds me somehow
I’ve got time for eyeshadow tutorials!
