In Heat?

Thanks to our cousin (Ate Adora’s family) who gave us our first (and only) pet dog named Gloria, we had the experience of caring for a pet and enjoying the company of her pups when we got home from school/work every day. Eventually all pups had to go to other homes for some reason, and we were left with Gloria until she didn’t come home from her daily walks in the neighborhood one day…

Looking at our old pictures now, I remember the days when she became so excited whenever we opened the gate. And when she got away, she’d run off excitedly (like a child running to the breakfast table at the smell of bacon) leaving us inexperienced dog owners puzzled. Why did she want to get out? What’s out there for her? Eventually, we got used to her new habit of running off and coming home at the end of the day until we noticed her bulging tummy! My younger siblings scolded her, “Oh, so you were out there looking for a boyfriend and now you come back pregnant! You flirt!” to which I had a good laugh. (Well, we don’t kick out a family member that comes home pregnant. Right?) So we anticipated Gloria’s due date and wondered what kind of dad she got for her pups. Would her litter of pups be pure white or black, or spotted? It was pure joy when we finally got to see them all out and played with them as they grew. We realized then that it didn’t matter which kind they were for we would just adore them all. (My personal favorite was the shaggy one though.) Our doctor father was also very supportive, giving them their meds/shots when they got infected one day and we were all scared…

There’s more to Gloria’s (and her pups’) story, but for now I just want to say that Gloria was really worthy of her name, and I praise and honor her as God’s gift to all of us, touching our hearts and lives in inconceivable ways. Thank you, Gloria. Spaciva, multumesc, arigato, salamat… MLJ/17/09/2020/IntheyearofCOVID19
