"The Times They Are A-Changin'"
That’s what Bob Dylan said since when?
Now nations split like mutilated paper dolls
Tyrants create dynasties and cling on
To power like leeches with fangs
Hooked onto mudfish on riverbeds.
Children are sent away to save themselves
Across furious waters and razor blades
Under their heels.
Borders are shut closed by the xenophobic
Most Britons vote to stop being neighbourly
Most Americans fuel their hatred of the status quo
And exhume the remains of barbarity
Voting for bigotry, misogyny, discrimination, prejudice
And releasing the prisoners of Pandora’s Box
Into the White House.
The rest stay home and live their lives
Wallowing in their indifference and resignation
These times they are indeed a-changing
But we hope we’re grossly mistaken
As it’s twenty sixteen when the lexicon
Should’ve ridden of the word racism.
